TGIF 2013 Glamazon: A Designer’s Arena

Being a designer is not simply about being creative, mixing color schemes, studying different concepts of design or sketching an elaborate croquis, a designer needs to have attitude, substance, a philosopher in mind and in heart. Procuring a variety of designs is a result of the creative artist’s catharsis, its where a designer pours and purifies his emotions into his yet-to-be magnum opus.

As a first step to my dream of being a designer, I entered Uni’s TGIF event – An annual event where student designers are given a chance to showcase their God-given talents in creating brilliant designs later to be strut on the glorified runway. I had the opportunity in my hands and almost slipped it away but I was glad I took it back. The whole experience was menacing, juggling the life of a medical student by day and rampaging through scaffolds of assemblages and work as a designer by night (not to mention depriving my body of sleep), but it was rewarding, I had the certain mindset that I wasnt working for the trophy or any of the awards, I was working on my design for I know its my passion and its overwhelming to see your creation come to life, it was all that matters.

In the earlier stages of our work, I had a sense of doubt and intimidation. I doubted we could ever finish our work on time, or our designs would lack attractiveness or would be bland compared to the other colleges, still we worked on.

On the night of the event I didnt feel nervous, I was excited. Excited to see how talented my fellow student designers are, and how I could learn and garner incentives from them to be later on added to my repertoire. The theme of this year’s TGIF event was GLAMAZON, which emphasizes the late dernier cri of animal prints. The event had 4 categories namely Arthropod (insects), Lofty (Birds) , Tamed (Harmless animals), and Predators (reptiles, lions etc).

Their designs fail to disappoint

Every model flaunted a work of art. Works of art that deep inside resembled the tears, sweat (and probably blood) that were shed to make their pieces come to a reality. Each model giving justice to the design by adding zest to their strut on the runway.

Here are some pictures that I shamelessly grabbed from facebook. Taken by:

Pictures taken by the amazing Adrian Alquisada. I wasnt at the front row when I was watching. Though I still had a glance of the exotic clothes, the shots left me in awe, jaw-dropping awe.

The shots are not in chronological order. My apologies for that.

Although we left with empty hands, I didnt feel that way. I was happy, satisfied to be exact, and wanting for more. The TGIF experience gave me new insights, planning and better incentives since I am a newbie. Improvements and better management should be observed by next year, Im willing to join again and implement new experiences and strategies to guarantee our college would get the sure win.

See you all in my next post.

If you wanna go..

So I’ve been rewatching the first season of Drop Dead Diva. The cast is just sooo flawless + the season finale was priceless. I almost cried on the fact that Jane is going to be disbarred. I also love the song they used on the season finale. Its titled If you wanna go – Joy Williams. I love everything about it. I just want to feel so sentimental sometimes (friggin scumbag emotionally unstable brain)

Here’s the video btw,

Here’s another batch of some outfit photos me and my Bff took 🙂

We found this weed field with some awesome rock formations. + the wild weeds look more like wheat. I still have lots of venues for photoshoots in mind. I want to take a shoot in the beach next time, but Im all outta outfits.

My hair got a little off guard since its very windy that time + my hair is firggin thick 😐 I need a haircut.

Oh and about my back, it seems that  I have a minor fracture, prolly in my upper back since these poor babies cushioned my fall from the infamous flight off the stairs 2 weeks before. I still dont know if I should be bedridden for a month or whatever. I think Im just too stressed + my paranoia is just worse, I thought I have spinal cancer which I dont know if its a word or that disease even exists 😐

Well I have nothing much to say. I just wish I already have a job and a decent paycheck so I can order a FAME perfume or the whole set online. Im curious of how it smells like. Unfortunately, Im allergic to scented lotions and stuff but the perfume and the soap will do. I still dont know if Ill be able to use the soap since I just want to sniff it all day and all night.

Still thankful and still relaxing from my 4-day weekend here at home. I just want to get the stress off. Maybe Ill treat my BFF later at Greenwhich or whatever. I still want a boyfriend though.

How was your week?

Lots of Love. With Orange Colored Skies.

A touch of heaven

Yesterday me, my sister and my mom went to the derma clinic. My mum had her moles and warts burned off which made her look like she had chicken pocks or a bad case of the measles. I wanted to have a check up. I had three full-blown zits and some mild acne and pimple scars on my left cheek, so I need a check up to clear these things out.

The dermatologist was busy doing some check ups so I decided I should go for a facial which is my very first time. I was a bit nervous because my mum told me last time that it’s a bit painful when you get a facial. They pop your zits and clear out some white heads and some impurities. I have 3 big zits.!! Talk about bad timing!

image

The scenario is quite calming. I lay down on a bed, got myself covered up with towels and such and the facial begins. They were adding some creams and toners, facial scrubs and then rinsing them off with warm water. After adding some sort of cream they steamed my face for 5 minutes.

image

image

And they cleaned my face. Somehow, the painful part, they dig out your white heads and blackheads and sometimes pop your zits. In my part, it wasnt really painful, it’s actually relaxing, a bit painful at times, but it’s just a mild sting. Then they used this device that ‘sucks’ or vacuums your face, and a glass apparatus with a glowing red rod that I think, burns out the pimples or impurities. Afterwards they applied a cream mask and let it dry for about 10 minutes.

image

image

Haha I look like rihanna beaten up by Chris Brown. Lol

They rinsed my face, added some cream and finished the whole procedure. The whole facial took like 40 minutes. I do love the part where massage your face + the relaxing music. My face felt new and cleansed, relaxed. It was smooth as a baby’s bottom.the whiteheads are definitely gone but the pimples and scabs are still there. I need to get a check up afterwards, but the doctor was. Were gonna go back there next saturday for a follow-up check up and hopefully another facial.

Pictures after the jump.

As of now I’m gonna use sulfur soaps and lemon extracts to resolve my acne problem. Hope it works.

A day in the life of a future scientist

Well maybe I should say ‘medical laboratory scientist‘. If I didn’t inform you guys I’m taking up medical technology as a pre-medicine course in college. Which also means I’ll be taking up medicine and go to med school afterwards. Which also means I’ll be surviving another decade of studying after I graduate.

I want to be a doctor to be honest. Dermatologist or maybe a doctor specializing in cardio-respiratory or whatever they call it. For now I still don’t know if I’m gonna be a doctor. There’s a lot of factors that will affect my success and/or my failure. Well lets not discuss more of that.

As a student of my course, we are entitled to a lot of work, especially research and analysis. We undergo serious chemistry exams for the sake of knowledge on analysis, microscopes are our best friends, (yes, we explore the micro world), we do lots of lab work; manipulating chemicals and glassware. Theres a lot of risks for us, which are too many to mention, which, I will mention in future blog posts. Be sure to remind me 🙂

Here’s a photograph of the planets I took in zoology class. I forgot the name of these things. (gawd I have so much to learn)

Beauty tips I usually do

Might as well post some tips on how to look beautiful or pretty, or at least feel good. Well, since Im going to be a Parlorist Dermatologist might as well share some tips of beauty.

Caution: these tips are not truly mine, I just read them from some blogs or sites and tested them if they do work. Im not a dermatologist or a professional.

1. Never touch your face.

I myself cant avoid but touch my face.  Touching ur face is a no no when you’re trying to keep pimples/acne at bay. Our fingers is not always clean. Our fingers have a certain bacteria, that if it went on the face, it may cause pimples. To prevent this always wash your hands. Frequent washing of hands will keep bacteria at bay so you can massage your face with your finger tips. I usually touch/examine my face after I take a bath.

2. Wash your face 2 times a day

Wash in the morning after you wake up or take a bath and wash in the evening before you sleep. To me, washing your face in the morning will prep up your face for the day coming up ahead. If you live in a city and walk yourself to work, this could be necessary. Washing your face at night before you sleep is also a must. This is to cleanse your face from pollutants, dust, or make up that got stuck in your pores. about the soap, you can use ordinary soap you like if its okay with your skin, but I usually use facial foams/scrubs/washes.

3. Moisturize

Want your cheeks to be so soft the one’s pinching cant help but wont let go? or should I say, want soft cheeks? there’s one word for that, Moisturize.  I really hate dry skin, especially on my face. I have this feeling of tightness and discomfort when my face is dry. You can use face lotions or creams. I use Nivea Creme’ its a bit greasy, but I only use it at night. It’s also essential to use a facial cream with SPF especially in the day.

4. Lightening

On my early high school days, I got a dilemma on my skin tone. I was dark as a raisin. I struggled. A lot of soaps, lotions, and scrubs got wasted. I didnt go with ‘whiten’ I went with ‘Lighten’. I use milk bars and glutathione soaps, milk salts, and milk baths. I also finish it off with a lightening lotion. Results are flawless. I dont recommend using bleaching soaps or solutions. If you want to get lighter skin with a youthful and healthy glow, be patient. Trust me, you’ll be happy with the results.

5. Diet

Eat fruits that are healthy for you and your skin. Feed your skin.  I eat papaya and tomato for glowing skin. Oh and Berries too! You should supply your skin with Vitamin E. Multivitamins are also essential. But most of all Water. Water is gives the skin its youthful glow, it makes the skin supple and maintain its elasticity and it also moisturizes the skin. Here is a site for some food good for your skin.

6. Steam baths and Saunas

Its been a long time since I did this. I have this portable sauna at home. They have this thingy where you go inside it and it has this small heater-like thing where you pour in the water and some oils or fruits. When the water boils, the steam goes directly to the sauna. By this, you sweat. As you sweat, your pores are being cleared and cleansed. afterwards,  I rinse with warm water and dry off. I have this ‘light and calmed’ feeling and my skin feels so smooth! I recommend you do this before you sleep. If you dont have one at home, you can go to spas and take a sauna, maybe at least once a month. Im sure your skin deserves a little treat.

7. Face Masks

I usually use face masks/nose masks for whitehead/blackhead reduction. Blackheads are not a good sight to see, especially if you have lighter skin. Blackheads are like a matured version of whiteheads. Whitehead come from powder or make up stuck in the pores. They are usually found  on the nose. You can ‘scoop’ them out using a whitehead remover, but the process is a bit painful and might cause irritation, its essential to use face masks. Those creamy things that harden and then you just peel ’em off. Its quite effective, but its not a gurantee they’ll remove your whitehead/blackhead population.

anyway, this all I can say. Ill be posting some more and keep updating you of some tips I find effective and if you have the money, you can go and treat yourself to spas around the city always remember, your body deserves a treat once in a while. You can search more trusted ones in google. Just take care of you skin and you will feel beautiful all over 🙂 If you have any interesting tip feel free to leave comment 🙂
